To investigate into the influences of several key parameters of the wake model on the predicted propeller performance, a great deal of numerical computation is carried out by changing the parameters. With the wake geometry calculated by a simplified wake alignment method, the interrelation of the hydrodynamic pitch with the geometrical pitch and the inflow pitch is analysed so that a model for the interrelation is derived, and then the Mathematica software is used to determine the coefficients in the model. In this way, an improved trailing vortex wake model for pod propulsors is developed. With the improved wake model, numerical computations are conducted for pod propulsors with different geometrical parameters, and the results agree satisfactorily with experimental data and are better than those predicted with an existing wake model.
